Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities. In some instances, as with No. 3, Petit Ermitage, the appeal lies in a whimsical aesthetic that’s been curated over decades. “From the art-filled hallways to the guest rooms — each one designed with its own unique theme — to the rooftop garden, it’s truly unlike anywhere else,” said one reader. “The experiences you’ll have here cannot be found anywhere else.” Several readers also called out the suites and bathrooms at the London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills (No. 2), which one person described as “massive.” For last year’s No. 1, the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, the magic comes from the staffers who, according to one reader, “ensure that all experiences are truly unforgettable.” Readers also gave a nod to two other in-demand neighborhoods: Downtown L.A., where the historic Hotel Figueroa (No. 5) boasts a prime location near L.A.
