It’s the kind of place where you could wander down a cobblestoned side street and stumble upon a 15th-century palazzo — making it a destination ripe for adventure and discovery. And if you stay at one of Florence’s best hotels, you’ll uncover a “hidden” side to the ancient city. Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities. Built on the Arno River, overlooking the iconic Ponte Vecchio, the 65-key property — which tied for the No. 1 spot in last year’s awards — has one of the best locations in the entire city. But Lungarno offers much more than its covetable address — namely, a museum-worthy art collection and elegant, residential-style interiors. “Perfect in every way,” wrote one reader. The Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, which earned the No. 6 spot on the list, offers a serene location in one of the largest privately owned gardens in the city, about 15 minutes’ walk from the Duomo. Guests can lounge around the large outdoor pool, wander the iconic temple gardens by foot, or get a bird’s-eye view of the sprawling estate from a hot-air balloon. “From the moment you walk through the door, you just feel you’re in a special place,” wrote one reader. “The back gardens and pool areas are stunning.” St. Regis Florence, readers’ runner-up, earned a loyal following thanks to its sumptuous guest rooms, atmospheric common spaces, and Michelin-starred dining. And Hotel Brunelleschi, which came in at No. 3, is surrounded by 1,500-year-old Byzantine walls on a quiet piazza in the heart of the city. Place Firenze Courtesy of JK Place Firenze Score: 97.27 More information: jkplace.com What this 20-room boutique hotel lacks in size, it more than makes up for in style, character, and outstanding views of Florence’s bustling Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Decked out in antiques, Moroccan lamps, and framed charcoal drawings, the intimate property feels like staying in the home of an impossibly stylish friend. The extravagant rooms have four-poster beds with heavy drapery and travertine bathrooms, while the lounge, library, and sitting room are so cozy, you’ll be tempted to skip an afternoon of sightseeing just to sit and pore over the extensive art-book collections. The highlight of J.K. Place Firenze, though, is the service. The property’s GM, Claudio Meli, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the city, and his expert staff is always willing to help — whether you need dinner reservations or a personal Wi-Fi hot spot for your day of sightseeing.
