The results reflect our readers’ experiences before the pandemic, but we hope that this year’s honorees will inspire your trips to come — whenever they may be. The pristine beaches of Greece and Italy are some of the favorite resort destinations for T+L readers, as is clearly evidenced by the numerous properties from those countries on this year’s list — five from each, to be exact. Still, 2020 also has several honorees that diversified this year’s geographic spread, including oceanfront hotels in Spain, a Swiss mountain resort, and a wine country getaway in Portugal. Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities. But the list’s runner-up is Finca Cortesin in Málaga, a golf and beach resort with a massive spa and plush suites. One reader wrote, “Once you enter this mesmerizing resort, you already are part of the Cortesin family,” giving credit to its friendly staff members that anticipate guests’ every need. “The beautiful Andalusian architecture, together with all the details brought up by the luxury segment, enhance the experience,” added the respondent. Swanky Badrutt’s Palace Hotel got fifth place, bringing some St. Moritz glitz to the list. The glamorous mountainside hotel is known for its “incredible service and attention” as much as for its “unmatched facilities and restaurants,” raved one reader. Several voters commented that it was their favorite hotel in all of Europe and even worldwide, while others mentioned it held a special place in their hearts during the holidays. But this year’s winner, Canaves Oia Epitome, points back to the enduring popularity of the Greek isles and Santorini specifically. Keep reading for the reasons why it’s among the best resorts in Europe — and for the full list. 1. Hidden away from the bustling town of Oia, privacy, barefoot luxury, and quiet calm are priorities here, but its multilevel infinity pool lined with volcanic rock and its tasty local cuisine add to the appeal. One reader enthused that the hotel offers “such a great experience, location, service, view, food, and rooms,” while another said, simply, it is the “best hotel in Santorini.” 2.
