No matter what you do at the Post Ranch Inn, you’ll have a beautiful view. And that’s just one reason why Travel + Leisure readers voted this the Best California Resort Hotel in our 2018 World’s Best Awards.

Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe— to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities.

T+L readers love this hotel because it has some of Big Sur’s best vistas. Post Ranch Inn is situated on cliffs 1,200 feet above the Pacific Ocean; on the other side rise the Santa Lucia mountains. Guests feel like they’re tucked into a glamorous, remote corner of the world.

There are only 39 rooms and one private home at the resort hotel, and all offer premium privacy. Book one of the luxurious treehouses, elevated nine feet off the ground. A glass skylight over the bed allows you to sleep under the stars without giving up any creature comforts. Although the resort won’t confirm who’s stayed there, rumor has it that everyone from Anne Hathaway to Drew Barrymore have checked in.

The resort is also known for its art collection. Sculptures pepper the grounds while photographs, paintings, and fine jewelry circle in and out of the Post Gallery.

Be sure to book a spa appointment, either in a special treatment room or in your own hotel room. One of the most unique experiences is a guided shaman session, a spiritual adventure designed to enhance your physical and mental well-being. More traditional spa-goers can opt for facials or massages.

And for the full California experience, guests can borrow one of the hotel’s Lexus cars — free of charge — and cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway.
