Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities.

Location was a strong suit for the JW Marriott Hong Kong, this year’s runner-up. Set in the Admiralty district, the hotel puts guests within striking distance of some of the city’s best shopping and restaurants, along with an MTR subway station. But considering the selection of on-site amenities — a resort-style outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, and seven dining options — you may just want to stay put.
A few minutes’ drive (or a half-hour walk) west, the Four Seasons Hong Kong snagged third place this year. Readers raved about the sleek design — which incorporates plenty of glass, marble, and dark wood — and its serene vibe, a welcome respite from Hong Kong’s nonstop energy. There’s also the hotel’s celebrated eatery Lung King Heen, the first Cantonese restaurant in the world to earn three Michelin stars. The historic Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong (No. 4), the brand’s flagship hotel, earned praise for its spa, which has nine rooms, an herbal steam room, and an indoor swimming pool and offers treatments like a traditional Chinese medicine-inspired meridian massage, which focuses on balancing the mind and body.

Score: 92.60
“A classic that lives up to its image,” is how one reader characterized the Peninsula Hong Kong, which once again earned the No. 1 spot on the list. Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, the oldest hotel in the city is constantly innovating, with guest rooms that are kitted out with cutting-edge entertainment systems, mood lighting, and state-of-the-art touch-screen room controls. Readers also loved the setting, which affords heart-stopping views of Victoria Harbour and the city’s futuristic skyline and is also “excellent for walking or catching the ferry,” according to one respondent. For the ultimate in luxury, request an airport pickup in one of the hotel’s own Rolls-Royces.
