Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities. At No. 4, the Park Hyatt Melbourne “is an immaculate property that’s so close to downtown you can walk to absolutely everything,” observed one reader. “The rooms are large and exceptionally well-appointed. It’s a perfect business or leisure base.” Across the Yarra River in the Southbank neighborhood, The Langham Melbourne (No. 3) is ideally situated in a high-rise building near the Royal Botanic Gardens and the National Gallery of Victoria. “It’s the nicest hotel in Australia,” according to one reader. Its 388 guest rooms have views of the river or city skyline and are designed in understated, neutral tones that offer a sense of peace and quiet after a day of exploring. In keeping with the traditional feeling, the hotel offers a popular afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, bite-size sweets and cakes, and glasses of Australian sparkling wine. Score: 90.25 More information: hyatt.com The location alone — on the waterfront in the Rocks neighborhood — was enough to make some of our readers choose the 155-room Park Hyatt Sydney over any other hotel in the city. “Our balcony overlooked the Sydney Harbour, and the views were so beautiful that it made it hard to fall asleep,” enthused one reader. Another valued the fact that it was “walking distance to the Opera House and ferries.” Other selling points: the rooftop plunge pool (again, with those killer Harbour and Opera House views), a collection of artwork from renowned Australian artists, and a minimalist design that makes you feel as if you’re staying in your most stylish friend’s fabulous apartment. As one reader put simply: “It’s the best hotel in Sydney in all aspects.” See all of our readers' favorite hotels, cities, airlines, cruise lines, and more in the World's Best Awards for 2019.
