Lake Havasu City has beaches in its surreal desert surroundings. Head south on U.S. Highway 95 for 85 miles, joining I-40 near Needles, California, then east to exit 9, Arizona Route 95 South. Connecting the mainland to a man-made island is the London Bridge, constructed in 1824 in England, disassembled, and rebuilt.

London Bridge

This original 1831 bridge traveled 5,400 miles and was reassembled brick by brick.

London Bridge Resort

Sure, the London Bridge Resort is all kitschy English Tudor-style from the outside; still, the 122 rooms are huge, and the views (ask for a Bridgeview) are transporting.

Shugrue's Restaurant & Bar

Tuck into a rib eye with béarnaise sauce or garlic-crusted halibut. The restaurant has views of London Bridge and a fairly respectable wine list.

Bluewater Jet Boat Tours

Take a tour up the Colorado River to the Topock Gorge.
