You can bring your car from Narragansett, RI, all the way to Block Island, a settlement of about 1,000 located 12 miles offshore. There, you’ll find a slowed-down world of pristine seashore, wild dunes, and antique lighthouses.

Hotel Manisses

The 137-year-old hotel has been in the same family since 1969. The 16 rooms are decorated with antique furniture, and some have vaulted wood-beamed ceilings and canopy beds.

Block Island Farmers' Market

Pick up scones from Pat Doyle aka "the Scone Lady"; she sells her wares under the canopy of trees at the farmers’ market at Negus Park.
