Taking a trip to Peru? You won’t have any trouble deciding what to do in Lima after watching this short video that highlights the city’s can’t-miss attractions.
Start a trip to Lima by tasting the street food from the huariques (pronounced wa-ree-kay), where you can grab an affordable bite across the city. Seek out sandwiches with chicharrón, and ceviche by cooks with as much cred as great restaurant chefs.
No doubt you’ll spend time admiring the colonial architecture. Downtown Lima is a UNESCO-protected site, and highlights include the 19th-century home known as Casa de Osambela, the Convento de San Francisco, and La Casona de san Marcos — the first university in the Americas.
Cool off with a Pisco sour, the emblematic drink of Peru known for the distinct taste of angostura bitters. For the second round, order a chilcano, the Pisco’s cousin with ginger ale and lime juice.
One of the most entertaining activities in Lima is visiting the boho barranco, an artsy neighborhood where visitors can peruse contemporary art galleries, chic boutiques, and some of the hottest bars in the city. This is also where you’ll also find Mario Testino’s MATE photography museum. (Gwyneth Paltrow stopped here on her trip to Peru.)
Finish a trip to Lima with a drive across the coastal Malecón. Get stunning views of the Pacific and take a rest in the Parque del Amor (with its befitting sculpture of two lovers), a romantic way to conclude an idyllic trip to Lima.
