Shanghai, China is a modern metropolis with thriving business and arts culture, as well as some of the World's Best hotels. While in Shanghai for luxury travel conference ILTM Asia, T+L's special correspondent, Sarah Spagnolo, traversed the city from end to end to pinpoint the best of the glamorous properties on either side of the Huangpu River. From the Fairmont Peace Hotel’s historic touches to the glamorous and youthful Puli Hotel and Spa, there are hotels that suit every type of traveler.

The Langham Xintiandi is perhaps best know for its English afternoon tea service, a popular experience at Shanghai hotels, however at the Langham, partnerships with jewelry brands and other companies help to make the tea service stand out. The new Mandarin Pudong has an enormous 26,000 square-foot spa—Spagnolo says she couldn't take her eyes off the floor-to-ceiling windows in the couples' room, which overlooks a private atrium. The five-year-old Peninsula on the Bund, filled with high tech amenities such as in-room valet box for laundry, grabbed her attention for the friendly service—including an on-site airport valet.
