VIDEO: Five Things to Do in Paris

Kick start your first morning in Paris with an espresso from the Art Deco-style Café de Flore (once frequented by Picasso) or a cup of filter coffee from the new wave Loustic, whose baristas will nod with approval if you order a café crème.

For only 1.70 euros (yes, Paris can be affordable), you can rent a bicycle from Vélib for an entire day—perfect for pedaling along the Seine and to all of the fun things to do in Paris.

Don’t overestimate the incredible iconic cultural institutions in the City of Light. Visit Mona and Monet at The Louvre, for example, or the old mansion-turned-museum, the Carnavalet. Grab traditional confections or daring éclairs from Éclair de Génie (the salted caramel or vanilla pecan varieties are especially good) before stocking up on pain, fromage, and vin from nearby Place Maubert.

Take your bounty back to the river for a picnic at the Ile Saint Louis. And of course, you can always figure out what to do in Paris simply by shopping the upscale boutiques that line the banks of the Canal Saint-Martin. It’s a great place to people-watch, pick up attractive Parisian fashions, and to enjoy the beautiful city.

Ready to go? Now you just have to pack your bags.
