This year marked the end of Spring for Music, the annual, week-long series of performances by visiting North American orchestras at Carnegie Hall—New York cultural life will be a poorer without it.

The programs, noted for their invention and variety, including New York premieres, offer polished performances by groups not heard frequently enough in New York: this year, symphony orchestras from Seattle, Pittsburgh, Rochester, New York, Cincinnati, and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Still, there is much to celebrate: as always, the concerts represented one of the best values in the city; all tickets for all performances range $12.50 to $25.
