Knowing when you’ll find big savings, less crowds, and top-notch snow conditions can make all the difference when booking a ski trip.

Ski.com, a supplier of ski vacation packages and bookings, analyzed more than 25,000 reservations over the last two years to identify the best week to hit the slopes if you're in search of fewer crowds, great prices, and prime powder.

Based on that analysis, January 9-14, 2017 is the best time to travel. Top ski resorts in Aspen, Jackson Hole, and Beaver Creek are on average 45 percent cheaper compared to prices during December holidays, spring break, and the week of Presidents’ Day.

While early December and late April can offer lower prices and the least crowded resorts, outdoor conditions are often less predictable. That makes the second week in January the best for snow-goers who want the best combination of all three factors.

“Early January is often a great time to ski because most resorts have had time to build up their base depths to levels that are usually above average for the season and open the majority of their terrain, if not all of it,” Joel Gratz, meteorologist and snow forecaster at OpenSnow, said in a statement. “By early January, the risk of limited terrain openings is diminished.”

The team also looked at historical data on arrival dates, finding that arrivals for the week of January 9-14 are half of the typical arrivals seen during Christmas week, and 44 percent lower on average than any week of travel in February.
