Q. I am going to Jamaica and was wondering about any shots I might need.
A. Besides a shot of local Bacardi rum during your first night on the town, you won't need any kind of inoculations to travel from the United States to Jamaica. Jamaica in general, and the tourist areas in particular, are generally safe from a health perspective. That's not to say that there aren't health concerns in Jamaica or elsewhere in the Caribbean. That's why I suggest you go to the Centers for Disease Control Web site, specifically the destination pages (www.cdc.gov/travel/destinat.htm) where you can find out the sorts of potential illnesses you may encounter—and tips on how to avoid them.
