T+L Reports: New Ships for Summer Cruising
The newly christened Seven Seas Voyager (800/285-1835; www.rssc.com; seven-night itineraries from $3,685 per person, double) spent its first months at sea cruising Europe. Aboard the world's second all-suite, all-balconied ship (2001's Seven Seas Mariner was the first), guests can take cooking lessons taught by Cordon Bleu chefs and choose among unusual land excursions, including one to the Galimard Perfumery in Monte Carlo, where passengers create their own fragrances. • Asian-inspired treatments debuted aboard Silversea and Norwegian ships a few years ago. The Eastern influence continues at the Lotus Spa, installed on all Princess ships (800/774-6237); passengers can rejuvenate with reiki, yoga, or a session in a chakra-aligning capsule. SeaDream Yacht Club (800/707-4911; www.seadreamyachtclub.com) brings the Far East to its two super-yachts, which sail the Caribbean and Mediterranean, with Javanese spice-and-yogurt scrubs and Japanese pressure-point massages. • If an intimate sailing experience is more your speed, head to the Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa (800/545-4000 or 960/444-888; www.fourseasons.com; three-night sailings from $2,894 for two); guests can explore remote atolls on the hotel's new 128-foot catamaran, the Island Explorer. Beach barbecues, sightseeing trips, and every imaginable water activity are included in the price, but with an onboard masseur and a maximum of 20 other guests, it may be hard to leave the boat.
Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa
Located on a private coral island in the North Malé Atoll, the Four Seasons Resort at Kuda Huraa has 96 bungalows and suites, some built on the white-sand beach and some on stilts over the water. Cream-colored furniture and canopy beds compliment the bungalows’ thatched roofs, timberwork, and white stone walls, all of which were made using local materials. The resort has four restaurants, including the acclaimed Baraabaru Indian restaurant and the Kandu Grill, which hosts a poolside barbecue every Friday. Accessible by dhoni (Maldivian sailboat), the spa is set on its own separate island with over-water treatment rooms.
