'Engagement Season' Is Upon Us, So Here Are 5 Outrageous Ways to Propose on Vacation
'Tis the season to get engaged.
Turkey dinners (and their leftovers) are officially done, meaning the season has finally begun. But we’re not talking about Christmas and Hanukkah and New Year's.
Following Thanksgiving, another popular — but less formal — season descends upon the world: engagement season.
According to a recent Wedinsights study, approximately 40 percent of all engagements occur between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day, with the most occurring in December.
Six of the top 10 engagement dates land in December: Christmas Day is the single most popular day for proposals, Christmas Eve is third, and December 17, 10, and 23 take the No. 7, 8, and 9 spots, respectively.
Professionals in the wedding industry aren’t the only people who have taken notice of this trend. Hotels and resorts across the world have been offering a number of engagement package deals to make saying “I do” even more unforgettable (and maybe a tiny bit less stressful for the person popping the question).
From adventurous proposals on mountains to engagement rings that magically rise out of the Caribbean, these engagement season specials showcase some of the most outrageous (and unconventional) ways your next vacation can become an outrageous proposal that promises a resounding “yes.”
A Heli-Snow Aspen Proposal
In Colorado, for example, the St. Regis Aspen Resort has created a new Heli-Snow Picnic and Proposal package for the 2017 and 2018 winter season. At the base of Anthracite Mountain, guests can spend the day snowshoeing and picnicking, before taking a knee to pop the question.
A Magical Mexico Proposal
For something a bit warmer, the Grand Velas Riviera Maya, in Mexico, has an ultimate proposal package paired with a four-course dinner — and a ring that arrives via either a magician or a scuba diver.
A Lavish New York City Proposal
New York City’s Hotel 48LEX has a $5,000 proposal package that includes a penthouse level suite, personal host, live musical entertainment, Dom Pérignon Champagne in Tiffany champagne flutes, and a professional photographer to capture the moment.
A South Africa Spa Proposal
The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa in Cape Town has not one but two proposal packages — but we recommended splurging on the lavish Deluxe Proposal Package. The traditional aphrodisiacs (chocolate-dipped strawberries, oysters, Champagne) are accompanied by a sunset couple’s massage in a mountain gazebo, and sessions in the plunge and saltwater floatation pools. If nothing else, the proposer will be seriously relaxed.
A Tuscan Proposal (With a Contingency Plan)
Most hotel and resort proposal packages expect the trip to have a fairytale ending. But at Castello di Casole — A Timbers Resort, in Italy, there’s a back-up plan. If your significant other isn’t wooed by the extravagant stay at this restored castle (or the bottles of estate wine, personally-designed engagement, romantic candlelit dinners, and rose petal baths) — the rejected guest can enjoy a half-hour drive in a Ferrari.
