There’s a noteworthy new spot worth considering for your next weekend getaway. The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage, set on a bluff above Palm Springs and California’s Coachella Valley, has thrown open its doors again today after a seven-year closure (you can thank the financial crisis for the delayed debut).

The 244 rooms and suites, with their Frette linens, Asprey amenities, and private balconies, sound like alluring havens of relaxation, but I’m most excited about the spa, with its 15 suites, plunge pools, and treatments focusing on indigenous plants and herbs. And between all the spa-ing, desert hiking, and tee times at nearby world-class golf resorts, grab a seat at the fireside patio at State Fare Bar and Kitchen for some cheese and charcuterie and a standout bottle of California wine.
