T+L Reports: Retail Therapy in NYC
Weary shoppers are being pampered and indulged in New York, where the urban oasis meets the boutique department store. Down on Barneys' beauty floor, aestheticians at Completely Bare (660 Madison Ave.; 212/833-2566) will remove any and all unwanted hairs with their precision waxing and laser-light technology (favored by Julia Roberts and the Hilton sisters); they also refine pores with futuristic polishes and microdermabrasion facials. The relaxation room has a cozy fireplace, and VIP's can sneak upstairs through a private elevator. A few blocks away at Takashimaya is an outpost of Babor (693 Fifth Ave.; 212/350-0119), hidden on the Japanese store's sixth level. The spa surrounds a circular opening that overlooks the floors below, guarded by a railing of bronze twigs and gilded butterflies by Gabriella Kiss. Try a Sea Creation facial, which uses a cream made from pearl protein and sea microorganisms, or soak up some bubbly with the Champagne Foam treatment, which leaves skin tingly and refreshed—just the kick you need for more shopping.
