For some, travel is all about luxury accommodations and five-star dining, but many younger travelers can’t afford — or aren’t interested in — a high-end resort experience.

To appeal to these travelers, REI has launched nine new trips created specifically for travelers ages 18-35. Dubbed “Under 35,” the experiences were designed for young travelers, by young travelers, and include fewer five-course dinners and more chances to connect with locals and explore.

The Under 35 collection includes an expedition through Colombia, a backpacking trip in Joshua Tree, a trip around the Greek islands, and spelunking in Vietnam. Each trip was designed by travel experts, employees, and REI co-op members who are under the age of 35, to ensure Under 35 guests will find the travel experiences they want.

In general, the collection includes more activities, added freedom and flexibility, and modest accommodations that won’t deter cost-conscious travelers.

“Our team has taken great care to design highly active itineraries with the right balance of down time, and most importantly that facilitate a community for younger travelers to travel deeply and responsibly with their peers,” said Justin Wood, senior manager of adventure travel at REI, in a statement. “For example, on our nine-day Colombia trip, guests will feel like archeologists by trekking with a private chef and discovering a lost city older than Machu Picchu and with far less visitors. We bike Medellin, hike in the world’s highest coastal mountain range, meet tribal leaders, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime at the photo famous Tayrona National Park.”
