In June, Marriott International launched its #LoveTravels campaign, encouraging LGBT travelers to feel at ease while staying with Marriott brands during their travels. Today, the company announced that it is broadening the message to individuals of any orientation, with an expanded lineup of celebrity endorsements such as soccer star Tim Howard and fashion maven Angela Simmons.

The #LoveTravels message remains largely the same. Tapping into a younger, more diverse audience, Marriott International is positioning its hotels as places where travelers can be themselves and follow their passions. For the renewed campaign, Marriott is encouraging consumers to post vacation photos on Instagram using the hashtag #LoveTravels. Participants will be entered to win prizes of up to $2,000 now through September 16.

T+L spoke with Tim Howard, who, as goalie on the US national soccer team fended off a record-setting 16 goals during a match against Belgium in this summer’s World Cup. When not playing for the US team, he is defending the net in England with the Everton Football Club.

Q: You travel frequently. Have you always enjoyed it?

A: I used to hate traveling. When I travel now, I love it. I try and do all the things that I want to do. I travel for work, I travel to see different tattoo artists to add to my collection, and I travel to see my family.

Q: What brought the switch?

A: Traveling opens up doors that standing still otherwise doesn’t. Through that travel takes a big, huge world and makes it small…Getting tattoos or playing soccer are just two ways.

Q: When traveling for work, do you get to enjoy your other main passions, tattoo art and hip-hop?

A: Unfortunately no. There’s really no time to combine when I’m on the road. Getting a tattoo is a few hour process, which surprisingly, just doesn’t fit when I’m on the road with the team.

Q: What prompted you to join the #LoveTravels campaign?

A: It was simple. This was a campaign that I wanted to be a part of. It’s who I am, what I’m about, “Love Travels”—that’s my life. Traveling to express myself my freedoms, my passions. It's quite simple.

Q: Where will you be jetting to next?

A: The only trip planned is back to Memphis, Tennessee to see my nine-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter.
