This Dog and Cat Are Best Friends and They're Traveling the World Together
Henry the dog and a teeny tiny kitten named Baloo may be the most adorable and unlikely best friends around. While they go against every law of nature, not to mention every cartoon you’ve ever seen, they do have one important thing in common: they both love to go on adventures.
The cat and dog duo are inspiring people the world over with their globe-trotting ways. And while their photos are adorable, the backstory of how they came together is even more heartwarming.
Cynthia Bennett, the pair’s mom, explained to the Dodo that she had been on the lookout for a pet pooch. And though she had her eye on a golden retriever mix, the second she saw Henry she knew he was the one.
“We looked around and Henry was just sitting there,” Bennett said. “They said he was only 3 and a half months, but he was like five times bigger than the other 3 and a half-month old puppies. And he had these long legs, and the body type of a wolf or husky.”
The instant connection was apparently mutual. When Bennett entered the pen to meet with Henry for the first time, she said “he just curled up into my lap and went belly up and flipped his head over my arm. And from then, I decided that he was coming home with us."
And that bond just got deeper when Bennett and her boyfriend, both avid hikers, realized her new furry best friend loved to spend time outdoors too.
“I think we only had him for three days when we took him on our first hike, which was to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs,” Bennett said. “He found the steepest, tallest rock around, and he ran up to the top of it to look over the edge.”
And a few months ago Bennett, her boyfriend, and Henry took another adventure together by adopting a kitten named Baloo.
“He ran right up to me,” Bennett told the Dodo. “And he was the one who played, but he wasn’t the most rowdy.”
Bennett explained she then took the time to harness train Baloo, who took to it like a natural, and they soon began taking the cat on their hikes with Henry.
“He’s definitely not the kind of cat we can leave home alone on the weekend anymore. I think he thinks he’s more a dog than anything,” she said.
Luckily for all of us Bennett was kind enough to share her family’s travels on Instagram. Henry and Baloo have now amassed more than 162,000 followers. Though really, they probably couldn’t care less so long as they get to keep exploring the great outdoors.
