When was the last time you bought a new album at an actual brick and mortar record shop? In the age of iTunes, it’s become the norm to download music from the internet. I'm guilty, too, even though you can frequently find me and my camera jammed in the front row covering concerts for various music publications.

Tomorrow, take advantage of the spring weather and head over to your local record shop for Record Store Day, a celebration of independently owned record stores in the United States, and other countries worldwide, now in its third year.

In addition to special vinyl and CD releases being made exclusively for Record Store Day from the likes of Phoenix and Jamie Lidell, there will also be a number of in-store appearances and performances from a wide variety of musicians, including Slash, Emmylou Harris, and Yeasayer. Search for your local participating stores here. I’ve put together a short list of standout events after the break.

Amoeba Music, San Francisco
Brooklyn's experimental rock group Yeasayer will trek to the city by the bay for a DJ set at the original Amoeba store on Haight Street. Stop by to have Charlotte Gainsbourg (daughter of French crooner Serge) sign your copy of her latest album IRM. Jonsi, the lead singer of Icelandic band Sigur Ros, will also perform songs from his debut solo record. 1855 Haight St., San Francisco, CA.

Generation Records, New York
Located in the center of Greenwich Village, Generation Records has a jam-packed line-up. Expect live sets from the much-hyped Cymbals Eat Guitars, and Brooklyn soul-revivalists, The Budos Band. 210 Thompson St., New York, NY.

The Groove, Nashville
Emmylou Harris will perform in her hometown at the Groove, in the heart of East Nashville’s Five Points neighborhood. A guitar signed by Harris will be raffled off at the event, courtesy of nearby Fanny’s House of Music. To top it all off, all new merchandise will be 15 percent off, and used items will be 25 percent off. 103 South 11th St., Nashville, TN.

Amoeba Music, Hollywood
Slash, the top-hat wearing, former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, will be signing copies of his debut solo album at Amoeba’s Hollywood location. The Smashing Pumpkins will also be giving out wristbands to a show that afternoon at nearby Space15Twenty to the first 250 people to pre-order their new box set that day. 6400 West Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA.
