Tuscany’s New Restaurant, Cecchini
Dario Cecchini recently opened Solociccia (5 Via Chiantigiana; 39-055/852-727; dinner for two $80) across the street from his shop, Antica Macelleria Cecchini, in Tuscany’s Panzano-in-Chianti. The contemporary backdrop belies the unbridled carnivorism that happens within: translated literally, solo ciccia means "only fat." Rules at the entrance inform diners unequivocally who’s in charge, so when Cecchini took five minutes to rattle off five of his favorite hometown things, T+L listened—respectfully
Best season to visit Panzano All are beautiful! But come in spring; it’s the nicest.
Best dishes at Solociccia Polpettone di manzo al limone (Tuscan meatloaf with lemon); tenerumi in salsa verde (braised beef tendon in green sauce).
Best wines to pair with them Anything local; Panzano has more than 70 wine producers. Try Enoteca Baldi (25 Piazza Bucciarelli; 39-055/852-843) for a great selection.
Best post-meal stroll Along Via Chiantigiana, south to Pieve di San Leolino, a 12th-century church with beautiful views—very romantic.
What to bring home Profumo del Chianti: sea salt with Tuscan herbs ($9).
