London culinary institution, Chef Mark Hix, has opened his first restaurant south of the Thames River, just a stones throw from the Tate Modern and Borough Market. At Hixter Bankside he’s once again working with the formula that proved so popular at his East London restaurant Tramshed, focusing on succulent whole roast chickens and Flinstones-sized beef cuts to share.

So while there’s nothing avante garde happening in the kitchen, the food is very well prepared and tasty, the produce local and seasonal, and the meats impeccably sourced.

Housed in a Victorian era metal factory, the vast space is chock full of artists that Hix champions: Tracey Emin, Pauline Amos, and Henry Hudson, to name a few. As the Southbank of London grows increasingly popular and more of a destination for visitors and locals alike, Hixter Bankside is just more proof that cool fine dining can be part of your itinerary after a day pounding the pavement seeing the sights.
