If you're a frequenter of national parks, you should consider also putting New Mexico's Armendaris Ranch, owned by Ted Turner, at the top of your must-visit list. Not only does the property's 360,000 acres make it bigger than many of the country's national parks, there's also a good chance you'll catch a peek at some of the areas abundant wildlife: Turner's bison herds, big horn sheep, African oryx, mountain lions—the list goes on. The best part: you'll have the entire place to yourself. Many visitors choose to pair a visit with a trip to the Ladder Ranch, another of Turner's properties nearby, where it is now possible to book a stay in the media mogul's former house. A short trip from both ranches, in the town of Truth or Consequences, is his Sierra Grande Lodge and Spa

The only thing better than exploring the Armendaris grounds by foot is taking in the sights from hundreds of feet in the air aboard a hot-air balloon (prices starting at $2,000 for 1-4 passengers). A few historic landmarks you'll be able to see: the El Camino Real Trail, Elephant Butte Lake, the Fra Cristobals. If you're looking to have a life-changing experience—and enough stunning photos to fuel your Instagram account for months—look no further.
