This fall, the French movie Coco Before Chanel, directed by Anne Fontaine, attempts to demystify the woman who defined modern fashion. The film stars Audrey Tautou as the designer in her early years and traces her ascent from the orphanage in Corrèze, where she learned to sew, to Brittany and her romance with Arthur Capel (played by Alessandro Nivola), and on to Paris, where her name became one of the world’s most recognizable.
