This NYC Hotel Is Celebrating Pride Month by Giving Guests Drag Makeovers
Now that the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 has been crowned and Pride Month is in full swing, you might be wondering: should I become a drag queen? Well, one New York City hotel wants to help you figure it out.
To celebrate Pride, The James New York — NoMad is pulling out all the stops (and the wigs) for a night of “drag education, glamour, and makeovers.” On June 13, wannabe queens can join the hotel for “Love & Lipliner” and get the chance to have their very on drag makeovers. This is finally your opportunity to see if you can actually be as good as the queens you toss shade at on the runway.
At the event guests can get a full drag makeover, join in on a makeup tutorial, study the history of drag and the important role it’s played in the queer community, and enter raffles for special prizes. And if you’d rather stay “untucked,” check out live performances from some of the biggest names in drag including Alexis Michelle (from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9), Jan Sport, Lagoona Bloo, Rosé, Brita Filter, Jasmine Rice, Kizha Carr, and Vix.
Tickets for the event start at $25 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Stonewall Community Foundation.
A boutique hotel, The James New York — NoMad is also partnering with the Stonewall Community Foundation to showcase an exhibit on important historical figures and icons within the LGBTQ community centered around six themes: activism, arts, literature, fashion, nightlife, and pop culture. The exhibit, called ICONS, will be on display throughout June and is free to the public.
The James is offering a special Pride-themed hotel package through the end of the month that includes Sundays nail polish to paint your colors and underwear from 2(X)IST. The James Proud package also includes access to Love & Lipliner, a wine hour, yoga classes, and more.
