Vintage Virginia

In her guide to Virginia wine country [“Travel + Leisure Weekend Getaways,” April], Meeghan Truelove overlooked Culpeper County’s Inn at Kelly’s Ford (doubles from $175). It sits on the historic site of the 1863 battle of Kelly’s Ford—the first cavalry fight of the Civil War—with an equestrian center and miles of trails. Owners Linda and Bill Willoughby happily arrange everything from picnics to fly-fishing along the Rappahannock River. It’s an enchanting place. —Laura La Flair, Hickory, N.C.

London Calling

I just finished Lynn Yaeger’s “Antiques Shopping in London” [April] and cannot wait to retrace her steps. Over the years I’ve stayed in some of the world’s most renowned hotels, from the Peninsula Hong Kong to Le Meurice, yet my favorite is La Maison des Têtes (doubles from $122), a half-timber house with a façade of gargoyles, in Colmar, Alsace. Originally built as a wine exchange in 1609, it has 18 cozy rooms with exposed wooden beams and flat-screen TV’s. The owners, Marc and Carmen Rohfritsch, are an extremely cordial couple, and Marc makes an excellent sauerkraut at the restaurant.
