Hot on the heels of his much talked-about Culture & Conference Center in Lucerne, architect Jean Nouvel has again descended on the sleepy Swiss city. In an Art Nouveau town house, Nouvel's The Hotel has 25 rooms rife with his signature high-tech theatricality - like the stills from Fellini's Casanova (and other erotic classics) that are projected onto the bedroom ceilings. But design isn't the only conversation starter: the Lounge is an island of cosmopolitan style in the city's sea of Alpine tradition. The Hotel, 14 Sempacherstrasse, Lucerne; 41-41/226-8686, fax 41-41/226-8690; doubles from $224.
