So you’ve eaten your way through Italy. You know your pecorini from your parmigiani. You’ve already ordered the latest edition of the Silver Spoon, that classic Italian cooking tome that's resided on many a nonna’s shelf since 1950. If that’s the case, the second-annual Identita New York—a two-day event in New York City next week where six of the bel paese’s most celebrated chefs will show off their cooking prowess alongside six American culinary bigwigs—might already be on your radar.

And there’s no better stateside setting for an homage to contemporary Italian cooking than at Eataly, the downtown Italian food mecca created last year by celebrity chefs and restaurateurs Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich, and Lidia Bastianich with Oscar Farinetti, founder of the original Eataly in Turin.

On the lineup? Cooking demos from the likes of cutting-edge chef Massimo Bottura of the Michelin two-starred Osteria Francescana in Modena—which snagged the number four spot on the esteemed San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants this year. Also on the roster is Moreno Cedroni, the Le Marche-based seafood maven whose Adriatic-inspired menu has patrons from Rome enduring the three-hour drive just to dine at Madonnina del Pescatore, his Senigallia restaurant. (Trust me: every bite in that inviting, light-filled dining room by the sea is worth the trek.)

Their New York City-based partners are a star-studded cast that includes Batali, Jonathan Benno, Wylie Dufresne, and Michael White. The best part: demos include two courses with wine pairings so you can actually taste some of the dishes they’re whipping up. Also on the schedule are hour-long tasting classes hosted by Italian winemakers such as Allegrini, Antinori, and Frescobaldi. If all of this is making your stomach growl, hurry up and grab a spot because space is filling up quickly—the Bottura/Batali demo and the finale dinner are already sold out.
