Leopard-print carpets, indoor swings, and four-inch stilettos in Nantucket?Shoe designer Vanessa Noel has transformed a 19th-century carriage house into VNH, the island's first boutique hotel and its most talked-about new destination. All eight bedrooms are furnished with the latest comforts (Frette linens, Italian silk shades, Bulgari toiletries); only their size reminds you of the building's Quaker origins. Off the lobby, adorned with a 1930's Baccarat chandelier and a Debbie Brooks American flag painting with high heels substituted for stars, is a Noel boutique and an outpost of Caviarteria, New York's beluga purveyors (another island first). May want to leave your Nantucket basket at home. VNH, 5 Chestnut St., Nantucket, Mass.; 508/228-5300; doubles from $340.
