The $9,500 Hawaiian Honeymoon Splurge You Won’t Forget
When couples head to Hawaii on their honeymoon, they often book lavish excursions — say, surf lessons, hikes to cascading waterfalls, or even a helicopter ride over an active volcano.
Now, they can add champagne sabering on the beach to their activity list.
The St. Regis Princeville Resort, which is set on Hanalei Bay, along Kauai’s lush north shore, will begin offering exclusive “Royal Dinners” with champagne brand Dom Pérignon, starting this summer.
The lucky couple starts the experience off in the lobby with a toast, before moving to the shore for a champagne sabering lesson, a St. Regis tradition. (You’ve seen the video before: sword meets bottle, top flies off — don’t try this at home.)
What follows after the sabering is a multi-course private dinner, whereby dishes are paired with standout vintages of Dom Pérignon.
Homemade angel hair with vodka crème fraiche, caviar, and bottarga might be accompanied by a glass of Dom Pérignon Luminous 2006, while the main entrée — grilled Kona lobster with wilted spinach, butter fried garlic, and ginger — would pair well with a rose vintage from 2004.
The dessert course (if you still have room) comes with Dom P2, 1998.
The best part of the whole experience? Couples can take any of the four unfinished bottles back to their room to keep the party going. Or, if the bottles are unopened, they can have them shipped back home. Talk about a celebratory souvenir.
Dinners start at $9,500, inclusive of tax, gratuity — and champagne.
