If you're more accustomed to driving golf balls than cattle, look to Spanish Peaks, a private community in Montana's Big Sky country, just north of Yellowstone National Park. The 3,500-acre development, which lies in a lush valley within the jagged Gallatin Range, is a Western ranch gone deluxe. There's fly-fishing (A River Runs Through It was filmed nearby), a swimming hole, hiking trails, and, of course, an 18-hole golf course. In winter, many of the 800 properties have ski-in, ski-out access to Big Sky Resort's deep powder. Half include pre-designed residences (from $350,000); the other half are backcountry sites for custom-built houses. Lots are selling fast, but fear not—you won't bump into any neighbors here. 75 Big Sky Spur Rd.; 877/995-3104;
