Seek Out Fresh Perspective

201501-connect-lhw-seek-out-fresh-perspective

Renowned for its "fierce" and "tame" beaches, Punta del Este is one of Uruguay’s most popular resort destinations. Discover this iconic location from a different perspective at Fasano Punta del Este, a Leading Hotel of the World, located a short drive from the undulating coastline away from the crowds. Designed by modernist architect Issay Weinfeld, the hotel’s layout offers a fresh spin on the wild landscape. Like the millennia-old stones scattered across the rolling countryside by time and nature, the 21 bungalows are placed with reverence for the land, flowing seamlessly with the rocky terrain. Situated on the grounds of a onetime estancia overlooking the Maldonado River, unwind in the pinnacle of luxury—and take in the rare views only those in-the-know will find. Close enough to the legendary white-sand beaches, yet far enough for a retreat, this stunning boutique provides a chance to see Uruguay from a new angle. Looking off the beaten path is often where the best travel stories begin.

Go Above and Beyond

201501-connect-lhw-go-above-and-beyond

Sitting on the highest point of the hotel grounds, the onsite restaurants, Las Piedras and Fasano, provide some of the best views on the property. Pairing a feast for the eyes with a standout culinary program, this boutique hotel takes authenticity and character to new heights. Likewise, the Lounge Bar is perfectly placed to savor one of Punta del Este’s famous sunsets with a refreshing Clericot, a regional drink made from claret red wine, sugar, lemon juice, and carbonated water. Locals often tailor their own secret recipes incorporating different liqueurs, fruits, and spices into the sparkling base. From its menus to its location, this spectacular luxury hotel is meticulously designed for those who want to escape, reflect, and get above stress. In this rustic setting, the Fasano brand also raises the bar on distinctive experiences with golf, an equestrian center, polo fields, and a spa, as well as a riverfront beach and lovely spring-fed rock pool.

Change Your Point of View

201501-connect-lhw-change-your-point-of-view

The hotel’s Fasano restaurant sits like a pastoral jewel amongst the property grounds. Like its architecture, which blends into the countryside, the menu is rooted in its surroundings with locally sourced produce, regional specialties, like Uruguayan caviar, asado, and local wine. Housed in what was once an ancient estancia, which has been completely remodeled and modernized, the tables on the veranda overlook the majestic property for a breathtaking dining experience. It is a restaurant with a view—and a commanding one at that. Inside the main dining room, the stone walls, light wood tables, and soft leather accents all perpetuate a sense of the outdoors; it’s an atmosphere that awakens the senses, without overpowering them. In bringing a different facet to the Punta del Este landscape, Fasano Punta del Este has provided the ideal atmosphere for sparking a new personal outlook. Take in the amazing view and savor local cuisine.

Find a New Lookout-and Outlook

201501-connect-lhw-find-a-new-lookout

Located 70 miles south of Zürich in the Lepontine Alps, the Chedi Andermatt is a luxurious five-star contemporary hotel and apartment development nestled in the unrivaled scenery of the Urseren Valley. While the area has attracted skiers for more than a century, it still has a decidedly under-the-radar vibe—and its hidden traditions make it a beguiling discovery for newcomers and return visitors alike. From mountain highs to valley lows, experience the eternal beauty of the Swiss Alps in a new way, starting with the Chedi Andermatt’s inventive design. Combining traditional and modern architecture, the hotel revamps a classic Alpine ski resort with unexpected Asian accents. Explore High and Low

201501-connect-lhw-explore-high-and-low

When you think of the Swiss Alps, you might focus entirely on towering mountains and exhilarating ski slopes, however, you’ll also be awe-struck by the low green valleys that lie between. Situated in the breathtaking Urseren Valley, Andermatt, which translates to “on the meadow,” provides a cherished example of traditional Swiss Alpine living, and the Chedi Andermatt looks to uphold this heritage. Nearby, you’ll find charming architecture and cultural gems amid the old town’s small streets. Visually, the surrounding mountains boast some of Switzerland’s most phenomenal Alpine passes and striking views, including the Devil’s Bridge and Devil’s Stone best seen by rail or walking the Schöllenen Gorge hiking trail. Exploring beyond the ski slopes and discovering the Alps from all angles is where you find the real story.

Make the Sky Your Limit

201501-connect-lhw-make-the-sky-your-limit

With guaranteed snowfall and impressive peaks, Andermatt is a winter sports haven; at the Chedi, there is a ski lift literally steps from the hotel. Take on the ambitious slopes of the Gemsstock peak, which reaches nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, or spend a day on Nätschen’s gentle slopes for a more laidback experience ideal for families and new skiers. In the neighboring ski area of Sedrun, located 20 minutes away by train, explore some 80 miles of outstanding Alpine piste. On a clear day, the panoramic view reveals some 600 peaks along the skyline, as well as the peaceful valley below, which offers challenges of its own. Below the mountains, take on a new, 18-hole championship golf course situated in the Urseren Valley between Andermatt and Hospental. Set along the Reuss River and surrounded by mountains, this world-class layout designed by Kurt Rossknecht has gold tees for tournament players and runs through hills and glens for an exceptional game.
