The koa wood and bronze columns of Hawaiian Hall, centerpiece of the Bishop Museum, has beenrestored to dazzling splendor by Ralph Appelbaum Associates (known for the Holocaust Museum and theNewseum in Washington, D.C.). The three-story space now more fully expresses the rich narrative ofHawaiian history with new media displays (interactive kiosks and video montages) alongside ancientartifacts like carved temple figures vibrant feather cloaks, and poi bowls, some on display for thefirst time in generations.
