T+L Reports: Making Scents
This season's fragrances capture the essence of a destination in a shapely bottle—and can transport you to distant shores. Dolce & Gabbana's Sicily ($65 for 1.7 oz.) blends Italian bergamot and black pearl rose with musk and comes in a slick black bottle that, according to the designers, evokes the volcanic rock of Mount Etna. Burberry's Brit ($78 for 3.3 oz.), a mix of lime, pear, and vanilla bean, is as cool as the North Sea air. Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder ($49.50 for 1.7 oz.) distills exotic tropical notes (crape jasmine, natal plum blossoms, and mahonia) from flowers harvested at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England, the world's largest conservatory. And to recapture summer anytime, Ralph Lauren has introduced Ralph Lauren Blue ($60 for 4.2 oz.), a scent reminiscent of a Nantucket beach, with hints of May rose, tuberose, and orange flower. One spritz and you can almost feel the sand between your toes.
