While many children are staying home from school for the rest of the year due to the coronavirus pandemic, both parents and teachers are trying to find ways to keep them up to date with their education while also providing some much-needed entertainment.

Now, Mermaid of Hilton Head, a local tourist-based business on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is providing free educational resources for parents and teachers who are looking for ways to keep kids engaged. After all, it’s not summer vacation — yet.

Mermaid of Hilton Head, before the coronavirus crisis forced many tourism businesses to close in order to combat the spread of the disease, was a unique place for families on Hilton Head Island to enjoy boat tours, dolphin experiences, shopping, mermaid “encounters,” and even a photoshoot experience that “turns” you into a mermaid. The company's lead professional mermaid is an expert swimmer who has been trained to swim with an artificial tail and hold her breath for long periods of time.

But since meeting a real-life mermaid isn’t in the cards for tourists right now, you can still give your kids a mermaid experience at home.

Mermaid of Hilton Head has a free website that’s chock full of educational resources, including audiobooks, coloring pages, fact sheets, worksheets, and educational videos. On the website, anyone can learn more about Hilton Head’s marine creatures and the environment, as well as partake in science and vocabulary lessons.
