Yesterday Times Square welcomed the InterContinental to the neighborhood. On the corner of 44th Street and 8th Avenue, this is the newest hotel to be built from the ground up in Manhattan in the past eight years. The eco-friendly hotel, which had a "vine-cutting" ceremony at the grand opening ceremony, is currently seeking silver LEED certification, and if granted, it will be the largest new-build hotel on the East Coast to attain this environmental badge of honor due to green initiatives such as low-flow toilets, local and recycled construction materials, and two green roofs on the seventh and second floors.

While being environmentally friendly is great, the most exciting part of this hotel is its amazing views of New York. Because the hotel is partly in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, which does not allow new buildings to be built over seven stories tall, a portion of the 607 guestrooms are located in a lower "platform" level in Hell's Kitchen. The other rooms in the 36 story glass tower on the Times Square side have floor to ceiling windows and stunning views that run up and down Eighth Avenue and all the way over to the Hudson River. Because no building west of the hotel can build higher than the InterContinental currently stands, the views from the rooms in the glass tower are never in danger of being obstructed. Talk about location, location, location!

Insider Tip: Though the hotel has a trendy new Todd English French bistro, called Ça Va, you can't leave New York without standing in line for a Shake Shake cheeseburger. Good thing the newest Shack is just steps from the hotel.
