Star Wars Land Will Have Custom Droids and Lightsabers — Here's How Much They'll Cost

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland next week, and hopeful Jedis will be able to make their otherworldly dreams come true — for a price.

Prices were just revealed for the big-ticket items sold within the new Star Wars land. Customized lightsabers, poised as being the must-buy souvenir at Galaxy’s Edge, will cost $199.99, and personalized droids will cost $99.99.

The prices may seem high, but if any merchandise at Disneyland could justify eclipsing the price of an entry ticket, it’s these items. As it's not only the souvenir, it's also the experience. Guests customizing lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop will partake in a 20-minute show with only 28 participants at a time, making it one of the most exclusive experiences at Disneyland (and at Walt Disney World when it opens this August).

Lightsabers will interact with other Star Wars items for sale, and droids purchased within Galaxy’s Edge will react to the land surrounding them, deeming them more of an in-park accessory than a take-home toy. (Just be sure to save some spending money for Disneyland’s first-ever bar.)

Though there are plenty of fuzzy creatures, space chicken, and high-end memorabilia for sale, neither the build-your-own droids at Droid Depot or lightsabers sold within Star Wars land will be traditional off-the-shelf merchandise. Disney parks are blending shop with show for an experience that’s customizable to each guest.

These realistic, fully-functioning items will not be available for sale at Target or other big box stores. Personalized droids and lightsabers can only be found within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge starting May 31 at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and August 28, 2019 when the second location of the theme park land opens at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. No annual pass discounts will be offered on the customizable lightsabers and droids, and unlike other products sold throughout Disneyland, neither will be returnable.

If you’re chomping at the bit to get your hands on BB-8 astromech units or Republic-era weaponry, be sure you plan ahead for how to visit. At this point, guests hoping to visit the far-flung outpost of Batuu can only do so before June 24 by booking a Disneyland Resort hotel room, but starting then will be able to “reserve” an entry time each day via a digital system. Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World will not require reservations to enter, but guests of Disney hotels and select additional hotels will be given three extra hours in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge each day this fall.
