Walt Disney World had fewer visitors last year and many people are blaming the rising cost of trips to the Magic Kingdom. Now, Disney is trying to woo customers back with a rare summertime ticket sale.
Earlier this month, a report came out showing that while Orlando’s Magic Kingdom is still the most popular theme park in the world, attendance had dropped for the first time in a decade. Orlando’s park wasn’t alone, either. According to the New York Times, attendance declined at 13 of 14 Disney theme parks around the world in 2016 compared with 2015. The reason? Higher ticket prices. Disney had reportedly raised their prices to help reduce crowding at some parks, because higher prices mean fewer people can afford to take their families on a trip to the wonderful world of Disney. They also implemented a new ticketing strategy that raised prices for peak periods by 20 percent. Unsurprisingly that made it impossible for some families to visit.
Now Disney is trying to reverse the trend, by offering families a deal. According to Florida’s WFLA, Walt Disney World is now offering a “4-Park Magic Ticket” that will grant ticket holders admission to one park per day for four separate days. The total four-day ticket price is $316 per adult and $296 per child, plus tax. While trips to the Magic Kingdom still don’t come cheap, when you break it down to how much tickets cost per day, it’s only $79 for adults and $74 for children ages 3 to 9, significantly less than the normal single day admission price of $115, plus tax. Tickets are on sale at Disney now through July 30, and will be valid for admission until September 30, 2017.
