Let Travel + Leisure’s eye candy inspire your next trip.
Photographer Katherine Wolkoff conveys the appeal of leisurely outdoor meals in Provence with her shot of a wooden dining table set for lunch in a lush garden.
It’s just one of the transporting images that brought a scene from a Travel + Leisure feature to life in 2013. Indeed, we’re proud to work with some of the world’s greatest photographers, who capture the majesty, humor, and sheer variety of the travel experience for readers back home.
Photographs in our 2013 pages introduced you to the Achuar Indian who runs the Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve in Ecuador; a secret stretch of rocky coastline in Ibiza, Spain; and a fashion-forward millinery in Glasgow.
T+L’s photo editors selected such beautiful images not only from the published pages of the magazine, but also from favorites that ended up on the cutting room floor—and that we’re excited to share with you for the first time.
Each photo editor chose his or her picks, then the group edited them down and voted on the top 20 images. See the results in this slideshow of the year’s most beautiful travel photographs.
Photographs curated by Photo Director Scott Hall along with Alex Arnold, Elizabeth Boyle, Malley Priebe, and Skye Senterfeit.

It’s an incongruous sight: sleek white boxes on stilts above the rocky, windswept coast of a small island off northeastern Newfoundland. But the 29-room Fogo Island Inn is actually infused with the area’s DNA.

The Kamppi Chapel, by K2S Architects, sits in a corner of Narinkkatori Square like a high-sided salad bowl on a granite kitchen counter. Inside, a halo of daylight-washed, curved walls of alder, creating a womblike environment. “So long as no one’s moment of silence is disturbed, anything goes,” an attendant said.
