The blue-eyed chef is making waves at his seasonal, Gulf-inspired restaurant, FT33—he even snagged a spot on Food & Wine magazine’s prestigious roster of Best New Chefs this year. We caught up with McCallister to find out his top local haunts in Dallas.

BreakfastSmoke’s Blueberry Pancakes and Smoked Brisket Cornbread Hash. ‘Nuff said.

Burger “I am sold on Jack Perkins’ Maple & Motor cheeseburger: order it pink, with grilled jalapeños and bacon.

Snack “The best po’ boy in town can be found at Marc Cassel’s 20 Feet Seafood Joint. It’s the perfect balance between spicy and sweet, and the shrimp is always perfectly cooked. The restaurant is also BYOB, which is great for me because I can bring along some of my favorite white wines.”

Pasta “I love practically anything Julian Barsotti of Nonna and David Uygur of Lucia are throwing down in their small Italian kitchens. The chicken liver pasta I recently had at Lucia was awesome, and the fritto misto and spaghetti with Calabrian chiles and breadcrumbs at Nonna are mind-blowing.

Pie “I can’t resist the cheese pie from Zolis, followed by a slice of Lord of the Pies (apples baked in handmade caramel and topped with cinnamon streusel) from Emporium Pies. A slice of both and you're good to go.”
