Best Hotels Along Las Ramblas in Barcelona

The most famous street in Barcelona is Las Ramblas. This avenue that bisects the center of Barcelona was originally named around 1859, and it has been pivotal to the city's identity ever since.

The street is nearly three-quarters of a mile long, and some areas along it have absolutely top-notch hotels. The downside, though, is that other parts of the street are not very nice to walk down after midnight (not dangerous, simply not nice). That’s why I recommend staying along the main stretch of Las Ramblas (close to Plaça Catalunya) or on the Rambla Catalunya, which is not quite as popular, but is nonetheless chock-full of restaurants, clubs and bookstores. My advice, if you stay at a hotel in one of these sections, is to get up early and walk down the street from Plaça Catalunya to the statue of Colon. You’ll get a real feel for the city just as it is waking up.

Hotel Bagués

This lovely hotel in the heart of Las Ramblas (it occupies a former 19th-century jewelry workshop) has a knowledgable staff, a large terrace with views looking over the city, and a great bistro-style restaurant (which serves great oysters). The rooms are quite large, but be sure to ask for one facing Las Ramblas; those that don’t suffer from a lack of sunlight.

Hotel Murmuri

This hotel is beautifully located on La Rambla Catalunya, and close to allthe major sights in the city. The Murmuri is one of my favorite spots in Barcelona because the rooms are designed with care, the light is fantastic (especially important if you’re traveling for business and need to work) and two of the best restaurants in the city—Petit Comité and El Nacional—are nearby.

Le Meridien Barcelona

A classic hotel with exemplary service in a perfect location, Le Meridien is the best choice for lovers of "tradition" looking for an hotel that really understands the meaning of that word. What's more, the rooms are large, the common spaces are cozy and allow you to relax, and the staff is exceptionally helpful .Try the cocktail bar: it's truly top-notch.

Hotel Do Reial

Located in one of Barcelona's most famous squares, la Plaça Reial, the Do Reial is a perfect hotel for a romantic getaway. Its 18 rooms are prettily designed (and very popular; be sure to book well in advence), and there are three on-site restaurants—including a rooftop terrace that’s fabulous in summertime.

Hotel Pulitzer

This is one of the best hotels on Las Ramblas in terms of value. The excellent service, flawless decor, and many room amenities make you forget that you’re staying at a small hotel. Plus, very importantly, the building has such good soundproofing that you can enjoy peace and quiet even in the middle of the city’s noisiest street.
