Best Family-Friendly Hotels in Barcelona
You could say that every hotel in Barcelona is family-friendly, because unlike many other major cities, the capital of Catalonia has always been considered a family destination. Aside from hostels (which obviously attract a crowd of young adults) you’ll be comfortable staying with your family anywhere in the city—although I would recommend you choose a hotel near the center, where there are dozens of things to do with your kids.
Barcelona's excellent public transport makes it easy to get around the city with kids. The subway accesses every neighborhood, which makes it really easy to move around the city. The Spanish have lunch and dinner on a different schedule than Americans (having supper at 9 p.m. is perfectly acceptable) so if you are able to adapt to that you’ll discover a new Barcelona. In any case almost all restaurants at the main neighborhoods (El Born, L’Eixample, the city center, Gràcia, etc) don’t close their kitchens at any time so you can have dinner anytime you want, even on European standard time (from 6 p.m. on).
I like Hotel Confortel for both its service and location. Researching establishments near the center of the city is one good way to choose a hotel in Barcelona, but this hotel is near the beach and that could be an even better incentive depending on the season. It’s also only four subway stops from Plaça Catalunya, putting you in the center quite quickly. Icing on the cake? They have a wonderful pool, and all kids under 12 can stay for free.
I really like this hotel as a family establishment. It’s in the very center of the city (5 minutes from everywhere by foot), but the location (a very quiet block in l’Eixample) allows guests to enjoy tranquility within one of the most crowded areas of Barcelona. The service is also good and the rooms are large and amply furnished, so your family will be taken care of well. Also, you can rent some bikes and enjoy the area (near Parc de la Ciutadella) with your kids.
This is a great hotel with a spa and there’re not many of those in the city. It’s located in the neighborhood of El Paral.lel, the old theatre district that now is well known for some of the best restaurants in the city. I like this hotel because the reception is particularly helpful and the rooms have a very good price (under a hundred dollars).
I like this very nice hotel which is part of the Marriot chain for its location (in Pau Claris, very near the Jaime Beriestain store I recommend in the boutique shops selection) and its rooftop terrace. The rooms are large, and if you ask for one with a view you’ll have a nice perspective of the city.
I love the architecture of this hotel; the Novotel can be described with one word: light. It has very large windows and fantastic views of the city skyline. At first sight, it could seem far away from the city (at the start of La Diagonal) but it is very well connected and its price makes it especially worth considering. Kids (and adults) can enjoy the nearby Glories mall, recently renovated.
