If Cancun conjures boozy spring break memories, you’re not alone. Fortunately, the city offers a number of unique, family-friendly activities. You can explore ancient ruins, speed through the jungle on a zip line, snorkel in the Caribbean reefs—and with the supervision of a trained professional—you can even pet a crocodile with the kids in tow. The vibrant jungles and bright blue waters surrounding this spectacular beach destination hold all kinds of adventures for you and your family to discover together. Whether you’re visiting kid-friendly venues in the Cancun Hotel Zone or venturing through the great outdoors, the best family attractions in Cancun capture children’s attention while entertaining adults. In my opinion, the travelers who get the most out of Cancun are the ones who get out and explore: not only will you get close to the city’s natural beauty, but you will also learn about Mexican culture in an interactive, dynamic way.

This immense nature park is paradise for families who love to swim. Situated around a large inlet, Xel-Ha features amazing snorkeling and on-site restaurants and bars, in addition to activities like cycling, rope swings, and zip lines right into the water. From my childhood until now, Xel-Ha has always remained one of my favorite places for outdoor fun.

Cancun Interactive Aquarium

Located at La Isla Shopping Village, this small aquarium lets you see some of the area’s most fascinating marine life up close. While parents browse the racks at high-end international and local boutiques (Armani, Avarqas) kids can watch dolphins, jellyfish, moray eels, and countless other species across 13 salt-water tanks. On my most recent visit to the aquarium, I joined the signature Shark Encounter and swam alongside these infamous giants.

Museo Maya

Cancun’s Museo Maya makes it easy for families to experience Mayan history without straying too far from the hotel. Located in the Hotel Zone, the museum blends contrasts its streamlined, contemporary aesthetic style with ancient artifacts dating back more than 14,000 years. You can even explore the Mayan ruins of San Miguelito during your visit; an archeological site just a few paces from the main museum.

Nestled in the jungles south of Cancun, Selvatica is an action-packed park with treetop zip lining, ATV tours, aerial bridges, a giant rope swing, and a natural cenote perfect for cooling off after a long day at play. Kids as young as three-years-old can participate in some of the activities at Selvatica.

Crococun Zoo

Learn all about local wildlife on a guided tour at Crococun. At this one-of-a-kind zoo, kids and adults can pet, hold, and feed some of the area’s most fascinating animals. Get close to Mexico’s white-tailed deer, turtles, snakes, birds, spider monkeys, and crocodiles. Cancun animal lovers are always raving about this family-friendly zoo.
