Beauty Road Test: Clinique’s New Smart Serum Gets an A+
In an ideal world, my carry-on liquids would begin and end with: toothpaste, cleanser, face cream. The problem with packing a simple dopp kit is that today’s beauty regimens can be anything but simple. Faced with deciding between myriad creams, serums, toners, exfoliates, and more, I yearn for one product that would take the place of ten—meaning a lighter suitcase and a simpler routine, all around.
Enter Clinique’s new Smart Custom-Repair Serum, a catchall formula that tailors its performance to address your personal skin care needs.
T+L Editorial Assistant Katie James shares her take.
The product: Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum, $59.50. Available now online, and at Clinique department and specialty store outposts, starting July 15.
Pros: Clinique scientists spent five years developing and testing this hallmark serum, so rest assured that it will deliver. The formula contains active ingredients to target skin’s afflictions—uneven tone, dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles—as well as ones that calm and help keep irritation at bay (red algae; licorice extract; caffeine). The result is a soothing finish, light enough to wear day and night. The clincher? The serum’s “smart” technology visibly corrected my existing damage (dullness, gone!)—with the added bonus of repairing problems I didn’t even know I had (crow’s feet, who?).
Cons: The usual impatience—results take time.
Verdict: Packing minimalists rejoice!
