It's more and more possible to bake your favorite desserts—from NYC or elsewhere—at home.

Jet-setters travel worldwide for regional delicacies—Japan for sushi, Cuba for sandwiches, Vermont for anything maple. Whether craving a New Orleans Cafe Du Monde beignet, a batch of brownies or cups of chocolate, there are mixes for millions of foodie fans to enjoy without mulling over airfare, packing, and passports. Just add water (or a few other pantry items).

For the sugar-loving, New York City-enthusiast—here are some specialties that originated in Manhattan venues and migrated to kitchens near and far:

Sylvia's Restaurant (328 Malcolm X Boulevard, Harlem)

If you can't make it to Harlem for waffles with chicken during Gospel Sunday brunch, baking a portion of its famous Cornbread isn't a bad Plan B. The southern soul food staple simply requires adding milk and eggs to the secret muffin mix. If you're still hungry, Sylvia's also sells chicken gravy, hush puppy, fish fry, apple crisp and other boxed mixes in retailers nationwide (and online). Serendipity3 (225 East 60th Street, Midtown East)

Once limited to midtown Manhattan (and now Boca Raton, FL), chocoholics and sugar fiends can celebrate their love of this delicious oxymoron on a daily basis: the restaurant's most famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. The goblet of greatness keeps patrons waiting outside for tables year-round. Fans may not be able to recreate the atmosphere, or everything off the whimsical menu—like their Golden Opulence Sundae ($1,000), but thankfully, other mixes (Frrrozen Hot Salted Caramel Chocolate and Hot Chocolate Mix) are available to order.

Fat Witch (75 9th Avenue, Chelsea)

Surrounded by dozens of dining options (and booming bakeries) in the Chelsea Market, the sweetery best known for it's variety of blissful brownies offers its original mix for all to enjoy. If you're directionally challenged, its website supplies step-by-step instructions. Aside from a bowl and baking pan (an oven is key, too), simply add eggs and butter for one of the best batches of brownies (in and outside of the city). Pre-made presents and packages (with blonde and walnut options) can be purchased and shipped. Original Fat Witch Brownie Mix - $5.99 on
