Watch a Terrifying Video of Tourists Surrounded by Sharks
Adventure-seeking tourists got their money’s worth when a swarm of tiger sharks surrounded their dinghy off Australia’s western coastline.
Their close encounter with some of Mother Nature’s most fearsome creatures was captured by cruise company Eco Abrolhos, who set up a drone outfitted with a GoPro camera. The video shows the 15 passengers on a tiny dinghy in an ocean filled with a hoard of hungry sharks. “Something to show and tell the grandchildren,” the tour company posted, in typical Australian dry humor.
The tour group was four days into their two-week cruise along the Australian coastline when they stumbled into the feeding frenzy near Dirk Hartog Island, which is near the westernmost point of Australia. Seventy or so tiger sharks were gathered there to feast on a humpback whale carcass, according to Thrillist.
The swarm of tiger sharks wasn’t exactly a surprise for the tour group—the area is part of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, home to the world's largest population of tiger sharks.
Eco Abrolhos posted the jaw-dropping video of the feast on their Facebook page, where over 2.5 million people have watched the tiger sharks in action.
Australia is planning on using drones to monitor shark activity near Bond Beach, which is popular with both humans and sharks. This video proves that they might want to expedite the program immediately.
