3 European Art Fairs
Paris
The 25th Biennale des Antiquaires (Sept. 15–22; bdafrance.eu) has old masters, Midcentury Modern furniture, serious jewels—it’s all here—under the glass dome of the Grand Palais. Four leading French chefs cook up lunch and dinner at a restaurant created just for the show.
London
Next month, the eighth Frieze Art Fair (Oct. 14–17) takes root in Regent’s Park, this time expanding to include site-specific commissions from 16 up-and-coming artists and a free film series in a specially designed theater pavilion.
Vienna
Design Week (Oct. 1–10; viennadesignweek.at) picks up where the Secessionists left off, transforming the onetime imperial capital into a citywide display of Central European vanguard creativity.
Frieze Art Fair
This annual mid-October art fair in Regent's Park is known for its multidisciplinary approach to contemporary art. The main attractions at the four-day event are the exhibitor fair and outdoor sculpture park, which present work from hundreds of international artists repped by more than 170 galleries. Another strong draw is the Frieze Projects, a handful of commissioned installations by artists in different disciplines. Lectures, film screenings, musical performances, and participatory family activities round out the fair, which is attended by collectors, curators, and the general public.
