Did your favorite destination make the list?
Travel + Leisure editors have spent months compiling survey data from readers to determine the best places to travel in 2017 and how to get there. Now the list is nearly here.
T+L conducts the World’s Best Awards survey each year in cooperation with digital marketing firm Wylei, allowing readers to vote on everything from the best cities in the world to the best cruises and safaris. Participants were able to nominate their favorite hotel, airline, or destination in the survey, and in order to qualify for the rankings, each entry had to rack up a minimum number of votes.
Charleston, South Carolina won big last year, nabbing the spot as the top city both in the U.S. and internationally. With its historic battlegrounds, boutique hotels, and craft eateries, this Antebellum-era southern city has the amenities of a cosmopolitan center and the charm of a small town.
Singapore Airlines has won the best international airline every year since T+L started collecting data more than 20 years ago. Airlines are evaluated based on cabin comfort, service, food, customer service, and value, so readers will soon find out if Singapore was able to hold onto the top spot again this year.
For domestic airlines, Virgin America scored the top ranking in 2016. “Virgin America is just pure fun to fly,” wrote one World’s Best Awards voter. “It’s the only airline I’ve ever flown where a captain has walked the aisles to greet passengers.”
Now that Virgin America's owner, Alaska Airlines, has announced its plans to close the brand by 2019, JetBlue or Hawaiian Airlines could be angling for the top spot (rated second and third in 2016, respectively).
Readers can watch as the top winners are officially announced Tuesday during the 10 a.m. hour on the "Today" show. NBC provides a livestream for cable subscribers to watch here.
